Chaplaincy

Our Chapel provides a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for staff and students of all backgrounds to explore faith, build friendships and have fun!

Chaplaincy

Our Chaplaincy is run by Miriam Kearney, our full time lay Chaplain, and supported by YoYo, a Schools Work Charity in York, local churches, youth workers and faith leaders across the city. Additionally, Reverend Simon Biddlestone, who serves as the vicar of Poppleton and Holy Redeemer parishes, provides vital Chaplaincy support through helping to lead our Eucharist services in school and offering pastoral support to staff, students and families.

Our Chapel provides a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for staff and students of all backgrounds to explore faith, build friendships and have fun! All students are welcome to attend our daily drop in sessions at break time and there is a wide range of lunchtime clubs available that are run by the Chaplain and YoYo Trust.

Our Chaplain supports the spiritual life of our academy in a variety of ways:

  • Resourcing and leading collective and form worship
  • Leading our liturgical celebrations
  • Facilitating our Chapel drop ins
  • Running extracurricular clubs
  • Organising our charity and campaign activities
  • Offering pastoral care for staff and students
  • Building relationships across our local parish, Diocese and the Church of England nationally
  • Creating space for quiet contemplation

Providing practical ways in which our community can live out its vision of ‘growing together, serving others, living life to the full’ through volunteering and leadership opportunities.

Our Eco Council, Ethos Prefects, Campaign Champions programme and our fundraising events provide important leadership opportunities for students to contribute to the life of Chaplaincy and the wider academy.
